The Inertia

A Note From the Editor:

I tried surfing the north side of the Huntington pier earlier today. It was depressing. It was depressing enough to convince me the entire ocean may just be a, well, ocean of depression this summer day. The waves were so non existent you couldn’t even complain about the onshore winds or unfavorable tide ruining it all.

Sure enough, summer in Southern California isn’t exactly awe inspiring today. The weather’s bitchin’, my tan is pretty legit at the moment, but what I really want today are waves. Then, magically, as if somebody was reading my mind, an email appeared in my inbox.

“I went to Trestles over the weekend,” was all Stevie wrote.

Definitely worth opening, I thought. Maybe it’s the thirst for waves, or the fact the entire 2 minute edit was pieced together with a song I’ve listened (and you have too) to 1,376 times this summer and still haven’t grown sick of. Maybe it’s both, but Galantis’ No Money is indeed a summer jam, and so is Trestles. These may not be the best waves you’ll see between now and Labor Day but there’s certainly something familiar, inviting, and worth getting excited about when it comes to spending a day at surfing’s best skatepark. Like the perfect song that gets you in the mood for a good time, Trestles is that one summer wave to save you from the depression of a flat day.
