Check out this ride from 14-year-old super-grom Ty Simpson-Kane. Ty was out surfing his paddle-in board before the 2018 Jaws Challenge. When the event was called off for the day, he borrowed Kai Lenny’s tow board and was towed into a monster by Derrick Doerner (see below). The kid actually gets a barrel at a maxing out Peahi.
Ty, who’s Maui born and bred, has grown up around the island’s great ocean athletes like Lenny and Ian Walsh. And he’s been paddling into Jaws since last year. But this was apparently his first, beefy tow-in session. Ty was visibly stoked as he came off the wave. And you can’t really blame him for showing some emotion.
