It’s tough to get a feel for the scale of Nazaré when it gets big. In person is the only way, really, but a close second comes from watching drone footage of the place. And when it got really big for the first time this season, the drones were out in force.
The footage you see above was shot on November 10th, a day that was not exactly easy to wrangle. Far from perfect, it had plenty of size — the first real XL swell of the year — but the Nazaré crew was out in force, training for those days when everything lines up. And training, of course, means wearing a few of those massive waves on the head. A few days prior to this, Nazaré was warming up the engines for a swell that was almost as big. It was huge and unruly, but the surfers were there to get their feet in the wax in preparation for what is sure to be a huge one.
