The Inertia

In case you hadn’t heard, Puerto Escondido got really big last week. Not as big as the time Mark Healey caught one of the biggest waves of his life, but still pretty big. A powerful swell ran into the fabled beach on July 13 and 14, and the offshore winds turned the place into what we all love to see: a barrel factory par excellence. The barrels were large, the wipeouts were bad, and the waves got big enough for a handful of surfers to pull out the tow boards. Lucas Chumbo, unsurprisingly, was a standout, along with several of the locals.
