The Inertia

British Olympic skateboarding hopeful Sky Brown was transported via life flight to a hospital after taking a hellacious wreck at an indoor park facility in Southern California this week. It looked as though the 11-year-old was transitioning between vert ramps when she lost control of her board, leaving her hanging in the air in extremely exposed fashion. The camera cuts away after the videographer can tell she’s in trouble.

Brown, also a gifted surfer, reportedly suffered a skull fracture, as well as breaks in her wrist and arm that required surgery and spoke in a YouTube video from a hospital bed. “I don’t usually post my falls or talk about them, because I want people to see the fun in what I do, but this was my worst fall, and I just want everyone to know that I’m OK,” she said. “It’s OK to fall sometimes. I’m just going to get back up and push even harder. I know there’s a lot going on in the world right now and I want everyone to know that whatever we do we’ve got to do it with love and happiness.”

A sweet attitude after an accident that obviously took her close to the edge. “Sky landed head-first off a ramp on her hand,” Brown’s father Stewart said. “When she first came to hospital, everyone was fearful for her life. (She’s) lucky to be alive.”

One of her mentors, Tony Hawk agreed. “From my perspective and in many ways, it was the worst fall one could take from a vert ramp.”

Brown hopes to represent England in the Olympic games that have been postponed until 2021 in Japan. You can see more on her Instagram page here. Her father also posted about the accident here.Β
