The Inertia

Saying goodbye to summer is a daunting feeling. It’s the time when boardies and tank tops get shoved to the back of our closets and the ol’ 4/3 wetsuit and booties come out. It’s also the time some of us bust out that puffy, cumbersome jacket and start looking like Ralphie’s little brother from the Christmas Story. “I can’t put my arms down!” Believe me, I was born and raised in Southern California so I know what extreme cold is. In fact, Los Angeles reached a bone-chilling temperature of 55 °F last winter! Poor us, right? All jokes aside, clothing technology has come a long way, and warmth is no longer synonymous with discomfort. Thankfully, Hurley has provided us with new Phantom Fleece technical essentials that are warm, lightweight, made to move, and, of course, fashionably tasteful.

So, for the gear junkies among us, let’s get to the specs.

The 79% cotton, 21% polyester fabric is smoother than a baby’s bottom. It has a lightweight thermal construction that locks in heat for lasting warmth while maintaining your body’s ability to naturally move. Side zip pockets keep small items like iPhones secure and easy to access for impromptu selfies. The ribbed waistbands and cuffs create a snug feel while the external drawcord provides a more personalized fit. To get scientific, the folks at Hurley integrated ergonomic paneling to maximize your natural range of motion, and if you want to go Batman with a matching base layer come mountain season, they’ve integrated Nike Dri-Fit Technology into the core layers. Translation: no sweat. Cool as a cucumber, baby. The Phantom Fleece series has three pieces: the hoodie, the crew, and the pant – all of which are suitable attire for any occasion. But when I sported them, I felt athletic. I felt like dunking on someone. Which was a nice feeling.
