San Diego Police Department and city Fire-Rescue Department confirmed a massive cliff bluff collapse occurred above Black’s Beach Friday. The landslide took place at about 2:30 p.m. near the 2800 block of Torrey Pines Scenic Drive and while it was a sizable collapse, no injuries were reported.
Eyewitnesses told local news that the process started with smaller pieces of the bluff breaking off slowly, which attracted enough attention and took enough time that people on the beach were able to clear the area before a full-on landslide. NBC 7 reported the total area that slid was about 250 feet wide by 25 feet tall, with a total volume of 150,000 cubic yards. SDFD last reported the La Jolla trail area is closed and officials have been urging people to stay away from Black’s Beach in the meantime.
