Marcelo Lusardi had been skateboarding for 11 years when a degenerative disease suddenly took his sight. That was a year ago, when he was just 19. Amazingly, the skater, who’s from Santiago de Compostela, Spain, kept riding his board.
That’s impressive enough. Not to mention he can still pull off super nasty no-comply backside 360s, among a bunch of other impressive tricks.
This new must-see 13-minute mini-doc, ”The Blind Rider,” produced by Runa Studio, explores how Lusardi has dealt with the change in his life. As you’d imagine, he seems like a strong-willed dude. He’s also got some good friends who encouraged him to keep shredding, regardless of losing his sight.
Lusardi creates a mental image of a skate spot, sometimes so accurately that he can skate places he knows well without his cane. For certain tricks, he uses his cane like any blind person might. Only when he uses it on a curb, he’s not worried about stepping down it, he’s about to bust a trick.
