Another Hawai’i tourist has died after being swept out to sea at a Kaua’i Beach. The tragedy marks the third time in a week a visitor to Hawai’i has been killed in an ocean-related incident.

First responders received a call alerting them to an unresponsive swimmer at Kauapea Beach, a spot on the north shore of Kauai also known as Secret Beach, around 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday. According to a release from the Kaua’i Police Department, upon arrival, they performed CPR on the victim, a 62-year-old male visitor from New York. Shortly after that, Kaua’i Fire Department personnel arrived and used an AED and Lucas device to attempt to resuscitate the man. He was then taken to the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Just a week earlier, two visitors died and one was injured at Keiki beach on the north shore of Oahu. Californian Bryan Kunic, 63, was sitting on the beach when a large wave pulled him into the water. The same wave also pulled in Laura Sue Jett, 72, and her daughter Laura Rich, 31, who were visiting from Oklahoma. After they were brought back to shore, Kunic was pronounced dead on the scene and Jett and Rich were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Jett eventually passed away Monday evening.
