Point Break is kind of like a surfer’s biblical tale. When I was a kid I watched the movie until the VHS wore out. Over and over and over. You couldn’t get away from Bodhi’s granola hippie zen like awesomeness. And you couldn’t deny your inner Johnny Utah – one of “the boys” in the streets, an adrenaline junkie in the sheets. Ok that was a bad analogy. But my point is the Point Break story is timeless.
Now let me give you three reasons why the 2015 version of said classic tale is already completely awesome, and we’ve only seen two trailers:
1. The Johnny Utah/Bodhi bromace is real.
These two lovebirds are just the best. There’s no bad guy here, only two good guys with opposing objectives. Bodhi saves Johnny. Bodhi enlightens Johnny. Then they spend the rest of their days trying to one up each other in the most fear inducing, adrenaline chasing ways possible. That’s friendship.
2. The new Bodhi is really Ultra Bodhi.
Bodhi is everything we’re supposed to want to be. Surfing comes first, and everything else in life is built around that. He was kind of simple in that sense, but noble because of it. Most of us don’t have the you know whats to follow that dedication off of a cliff. 2015 Bodhi actually jumps off of cliffs now. On top of the airplanes we’re accustomed to seeing him leap from. It’s awesome. 2015 Bodhi is like a monk from the temple of rad, stubbornly pursuing some crusader’s journey that won’t end until the whole world learns to be as zen as him.
3. We are all way gnarlier than we were in 1991. And so is this.
Let’s see, base jumping in wingsuits, dirt bike chases through sketchy canyons, double barreled at Chopes, and really really awesome parties on equally awesome boats. It’s like Travis Pastrana is producing a P. Diddy music video.
