The Inertia

The past week has seen conditions across the American West change from fall to winter very rapidly. Colorado resorts got dumped on, some with more than a foot of snow in the past 36 hours. People are heading out into the backcountry in Utah (click here if you wanna see what that looks like), and another hefty storm is being forecasted for early next week, this one with more of a focus on Canada, Washington, and the Sierras as it tracks down the coast.

Powderchasers reports that coastal British Columbia could see multiple feet of snow over the next few days, as well as the North Cascades. Storm totals are lower for the States, but certainly nothing to be sniffed at as a foot or more of snow is currently forecasted for parts of the Sierras, which saw its first snow of about 1.5 inches last weekend.

Utah and Colorado should also see decent totals from the storm, with Opensnow suggesting 32 inches for Alta in the next 6-10 days. That being said, in the words of Powderchaser’s Steve Conney, “Confidence is low on amounts being five days out… Confidence is high of this storm to evolve.” In other words, these forecasts are a ways off to say anything with certainty. Stay tuned for more updates as the storm gets closer.
