The Inertia

Seal Beach Pier was the site of a large fire this morning. At about 7:30 am, fire fighters responded to a call at an iconic, abandoned restaurant called Ruby’s Diner.

Seal Beach, of course, is home to a few epic days a year (see here, here and here). Although it’s not often, when it turns on, it really turns on. Ruby’s was a ’50s themed restaurant that closed a few years ago after a quarter of a century serving food at the end of the pier.

The smoke plume from the fire billowed high into the air, attracting onlookers to the blaze. Fire boats from LA County Fire Dept, Long Beach Fire Dept, and the Orange County Harbor Patrol motored into place to douse the flames. After nearly 3 hours, the fire was out, but not before the roof of the building collapsed in on itself. The cause of the fire isn’t yet known, but it is under investigation.
