It’s been a promising weekend for powder-enthusiasts across the western U.S. In the last few days, storms in the Sierras and Rockies brought a much-needed 10-13 inches of snow to Squaw-Alpine and other resorts in the Tahoe area such as Northstar and Heavenly. On the other side of the Sierras, Mammoth Mountain received 8-12 inches. Meanwhile, ski areas in Colorado received more varied snowfall – A-Basin’s website reported only three inches in the past 72 hours, while Aspen’s website claimed they received 16 inches over the weekend, and Wolf Creek defended their title as “The Most Snow in Colorado” with 21 inches.

That being said, the best is still on the way, as the Northeast gets ready for its biggest snowfall in years. A big Nor’easter is brewing in the North Pacific, landing in the Pacific Northwest tomorrow with 17 inches projected over the next five days for Crystal Mountain and other resorts in the area. The storm will then travel eastward, bringing widespread snowfall across the U.S. including the Sierras, Rockies and as far south as Virginia when it reaches the East Coast on Thursday. New York City should get upwards of a foot of snow, a welcome change from last year’s 4.8-inch season total. For the East Coast skiers and riders reading this, fear not, fresh pow is on the way.
