The Inertia

A single-engine plane pulling an advertising banner crashed into the water just off a New Hampshire beach over the weekend. There were no injuries and the pilot emerged unharmed, according to the Associated Press, but authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

Around noon on Sunday, a single-engine Piper PA-18 airplane flew over Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, pulling a banner for an Eagles tribute band playing that night at a local venue. Onlookers told AP that they became aware that something was wrong when the banner dropped from the plane. Shortly afterwards, the plane crashed into the water about 30 yards off the beach, flipped forward, then rolled back into an upright position.

The pilot emerged from the plane of his own accord, before being assisted ashore by Hampton Beach lifeguards. Police told the Associated Press that the pilot was evaluated at the scene and found to be unharmed.

Later, the plane was hauled onto the sand and eventually turned over to the owner, Sky Lines Aerial Advertising, based at nearby Hampton Airfield. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the incident.
