The Inertia

Hawai’i may have just experienced its first reported shark attack of 2025. The incident occurred on Oahu’s North Shore, where a shark tour employee has reportedly been seriously injured.

The victim was an unnamed 23-year-old man who was apparently bitten on his arm, as Hawaii News Now reports. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to Haleiwa Boat Harbor just before 2 p.m. on Saturday and administered advanced life support to the man.

Further details came from Daniel Casler of My Kailua, who posted an update “from a very close source to the victim.” He wrote in a Facebook post that “Today’s shark attack took place outside of Haleiwa during a shark tour. The victim is an employee of the shark tour company and was caught in a bait ball (where large school of fish ball up) and the shark latched onto the forearm of the individual. His arm was saved and he’s retained feeling. There are more surgeries ahead for him but thankfully he will recover.”
