Incase you haven’t heard… @mtbakerskiarea is DEEP right now! @0hutch0

A post shared by SNOCRU (@snocru) on

It’s safe to say that Mt. Baker was almost too deep this weekend. Get this: in 10 days the resort received 12 feet of snow. This, from the Northwest Avalanche Center. That’s ridiculous. And it all went so well until rain started falling early Sunday morning. The heavy conditions forced the mountain in northwest Washington along the Canadian border to close Sunday and Monday. “We’ve had some absolutely amazing skiing and riding this past week,” wrote the resort on its website. “Now we’re going to hunker down for a couple of days and be ready to hit it again hard on Tuesday.”

The avalanche conditions were beyond dangerous and resort officials didn’t feel comfortable leaving the mountain open to the public (the surrounding terrain in the Mt. Baker Wilderness is serious). But at least they got some of the conditions above.
