The Inertia

Imagine the lens of your current GoPro Hero and that’s it. No bells and whistles. No need for a separate camera housing. Just that tiny little black cube and a single button to power the whole thing. That’s how GoPro made their already minimalistic line of HD cameras even simpler (and somehow more rad) with the Hero4 Session. Half the size, 40% lighter, 100% cooler.

The internet and all your social media platforms are exploding today with the announcement of GoPro’s first completely reinvented camera in almost ten years, set to launch July 12, 2015. Retailing for $399, the new camera comes out of the box waterproof, it shoots 1440p at 30 frames per second, 1080p at 60 frames per second, and 720p at 100 frames per second. It can also set slow-motion recordings and time lapses, all with a battery that lasts up to two hours at 1080p. Its single button design allows the camera to start filming as soon as it’s turned on.

Apparently the company has worked on this camera since 2011. A spokesperson for GoPro says CEO Nick Woodman realized the need for a more discreet camera that top-tier athletes could still use in competition. A ball-joint mounting system offers adjustable camera angles. You can even mount the camera upside down but thanks to an auto image orientation the Session will capture and flip your footage automatically. Basically, things just got a little more creative and way more rad.
