At the conclusion of the Discovery Channel’s 30th anniversary of Shark Week, a storyline comes to us from New England that nearly mirrors the beginning of Steven Spielberg’s opus, Jaws.
In the Cape Cod town of Nauset, throngs of swimmers and surfers were evacuated from the water on Friday when a shark was spotted chomping on a seal.
“15’ Great White swam thru [sic] 30 surfers had a snack pulled an Irish exit,” wrote Twitter user Ken Martin of Boston in a post accompanying the video above.
There were no reported injuries to any humans.
According to Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s “Sharktivity” map there have been over 35 confirmed shark sightings off the coast of Massachusetts in the past 30 days.
