Nothing helps pass time during a cold, dark winter than a fun building project. And when it’s all over, enjoying the fruits of your labor can be quite gratifying. Although alaias can be quite tricky to surf on, it is an extremely user-friendly board due to its multi-purpose use. Prone riding, kitesurfing and skurfing are just a few among the several methods used in utilizing these fun, primitive-looking boards.

A few years back, some friends and I spent some time developing a shape that we felt worked really well and put together a building guide for first timers. In the meantime, wet your wooden whistle and check out some of our favorite alaia moments over the past few seasons, for you, too, can enjoy the fruits of your labor.
