The Inertia

Installed on the freeway underpass at Trestles in San Clemente, “The Creation of a Teahupoo Champ” celebrates Gabriel Medina’s win at the Billabong Pro Tahiti at Teahupoo. It is inspired by a conversation Medina had with his mother prior to the final with Kelly Slater, when she told him that “there is no one bigger than God.”

The artwork is based off Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam” painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
