The Inertia

Day 2 at Air + Style Los Angeles was a wet one, raining out the Ski Big Air finals. The results from the first round of competition were declared as the final results: Gus Kenworthy placed first, Alex Bellemare placed second, and Vincent Gagnier placed third. Consequently, this video features no skiing. Instead, there are a lot of “heys,” rain dancing, and steamy live music.

“Due to a constant rain throughout the day, the snow conditions were deemed to be a safety concern by the competition team,” said Chris Gunnarson, president of Snow Park Technologies.

So in between live sets and dance breaks, I hit the ground running to interview Vincent Gagnier, Steve Aoki, and any girl who looked like she might want to talk with me. The handful of performances I got to see were by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, The Flaming Lips, and, yep, Steve Aoki. People were screaming; apparently the cake Steve Aoki was slam dunking on everyone’s face tasted fantastic! When was the last time you went to a show got fed by the performer!? LA Times food critic Jonathon Gold should’ve been there… You should’ve been there!
