Music is life. Imagine the movie Jaws without that ominous tune following ol’ sharky around. It would be completely dull without that very familiar soundtrack. Can I get an Amen?… Amen. Thank you very much.
We all listen to music for different reasons; some to be motivated, experience joy, sadness, or to get the adrenaline flowing. The study of music’s effect on the brain has shown the pleasure sensation felt may be caused by the release of dopamine in the brain – an excellent effect that keeps people coming back for more. Personally, right before a surf session, I have a particular playlist I like to use. Here are the top 5 that get my dopamine flowing.
1. Lazers of God – Lazers of God
This is a pumping rock track with musicians Lukas Nelson and Alberto Bof from the “Attractive Distractions” soundtrack.
2. Go – Meg Myers
I found this kick ass rock/pop/alt song off the “Attractive Distractions” trailer. Since I found “Go” I have downloaded every Meg Myers Album. Some seriously good music.
3. Deadringer – RJD2
This album creates motivation and focus, and straight puts me in the zone it’s a mix of hip hop/electronica.
4. Bad Magick – Shooter Jennings
Ever since seeing Matt Meola’s “Home” edit my brain relates this song with progressive surf and intense airs. I put this on, my mind visualizes the shred, and I’m ready to go
5. The Afterglow – John Frusciante & Josh Klinghoffer
I’m a huge John Frusciante fan. Some of his electronica songs are out there, however, this one is just right. It sets my mind into chill mode ready for a good day.
It’s amazing how our minds relate music to certain feelings and can push us to reach a new level we thought impossible when not pumped. In the search for music and my sheer appreciation for it, I’d like to engage the Inertia audience. Tell me, what is your favorite pump up music before whatever it is that you beautiful people do? Post your reply in the comments.
