Don’t ever let anyone tell you that road racing isn’t a gnarly sport. Because it truly is. Remco Evenepoel, a 20-year-old Belgian cyclist, a very good Belgian cyclists we might add, was on a descent during the one-day Il Lombardia road race in Italy when he hit a bump or some sort of obstacle and was thrown over his handlebars, then off the bridge.
The young rider was lucky to come away with a broken pelvis and a contusion of the lungs. Things obviously could have been much worse as it looks as though he fell at least some thirty feet into the ravine below. Ironically enough, another cyclist was hit later in the race after a car mistakenly entered the course. Thankfully, it sounds as if Evenepoel will recover.
