No secret here, avalanches create problems anywhere there are mountains. And that’s certainly the case in Chamonix, France. For years, teams have had to use different methods to control avalanches in the French Alps. But this has to be one of the more efficient. Chamonix Heli Co. posted this quick vid to its instagram where the team mounted GoPros toย give people a view of its Daisy Bell.
The Daisy Bell is a story all its own. The “bell,” hanging some 14-30 meters below the helicopter, releases a precise explosion of hydrogen/oxygen and gas onto a given slope. The company that created the device says it’s perfect for “inaccessible or particularly troublesome avalanche areas.” Making it ideal to help control slopes above highways or resorts without putting people in harms way. And the optics are fantastic.
