A lot of people in show business are worried about artificial intelligence right now. So much, in fact, that AI has been one of the central negotiating points that shut down (almost) the entire film and television industry for the past six months. Hollywood writers have skin in the game. So do actors. As do filmmakers. Nobody wants their job to be replaced by a robot once AI is capable of doing the task for free — something technology does at pretty much every twist and turn of progress in every single industry across every page of human history. But before we get too far down that rabbit hole, let’s flip this back to something like…making snowboard films.
At least one AI program still has ground to make up before replacing your favorite ski and snowboard filmmaker, which should give some people in Hollywood perspective of their current job security. Simone Pixel is a program run by Reboot Experts, which told me it’s here to be my “personal assistant, advisor, life-coach, and research expert rolled into one.” To showcase Simone’s evolution, the team at Reboot Experts (presumably) asked her to make a snowboard film. And Simone’s interpretation of that was…interesting.
Maybe the text-to-video prompt was actually something like, “Simone, make me a snowboard film…but you gotta take several tabs of acid first. And forget most laws of physics, if not all of them. Oh, and make sure every shot shows just how packed a groomer is on your typical bluebird day during a three-day weekend. Keep that part realistic. And people should appear as if out of nowhere. Maybe they’re actually skiing …no, no they’re definitely snowboarding. But that can be up to you, I guess. Ok, thanks.”
