The Inertia

Little Cottonwood Canyon has some of the most pristine ski and snowboarding terrain in the world. And two world-class resorts between Snowbird and Alta. But that terrain is also avalanche prone.

Each year, a phenomenon known as “interlodge” occurs when the canyon is shut down from avalanches. People who were at the resort when the canyon is closed are stuck there until it reopens.

This past week, the resorts were reportedly closed for two days due to avalanche danger. The Daily Pow posted the above video of an avalanche careening off Alta with the caption, “Looks sketchy af across the street from the Alta Peruvian Lodge right now!”
