Millions of people all over the world open up their phones each day and order themselves a ride to work, bars, restaurants, and airports. Rideshares, as they’re called, are nearly ubiquitous at this point. In 2023, Uber says this daily routine amounted to 9.4 billion trips in the 70 different countries and 10,000 cities they operate.
This week, the company announced that seven of those countries in Europe — France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Poland, Spain, and Sweden — will offer a new version of the service specifically for traveling skiers and snowboarders. Uber Ski vehicles will all be equipped with ski and snowboard racks. A press release from the company says the new rideshare service will execute rides from “key airports” to more than 90 different ski resorts. They are offering a fixed rate service at 49€ for up to five people.
In its media release, Uber says during 2024, demand for its services “more than doubled” at resorts like Courchevel, France and Switzerland’s Gstaad. “Whether you’re heading off for a weekend in the mountains or catching a transfer from the airport, Uber Ski offers a seamless, affordable, and hassle-free way to travel with all your gear,” said Uber’s Anabel Diaz.
Now you don’t have to pack your friends and all their gear into a Prius. At least in some parts of Europe, that is.
