The Inertia

An avalanche came hurtling through a small Italian village in the Martell Valley this weekend, carrying a river of tree trunks, branches, and other debris with it. As you can see in the video, it’s pretty horrifying and closed off streets and access across the region.

Power outages were widespread in the South Tyrol region of Northern Italy. The Martell Valley, and Val Martello, where the avalanche streamed through the streets, is south of the Austrian border and to the east of Switzerland. The Alps received at least three feet of snow in the last few days creating extremely hazardous conditions.

Italy has experienced very unusual weather patterns in general over the last few weeks, as Venice has seen massive flooding due to extremely high tides.
