The Inertia

Winter has come back to California’s Sierra Nevada mountains in a huge way. Storms began pounding the range this week and resorts are loving it. A winter storm warning is in effect throughout the north-central part of the state with up to five feet expected at higher elevations by Saturday morning.

It’s much-welcomed precip to what has been a mostly dry winter in California. Snowpacks are still only half of normal in most parts of the state. But things are improving.

Squaw Valley received 18 inches overnight while sporting a 138-inch base with more on the way while Mammoth on the Sierra’s eastern slope is reporting 10 feet during the month of March alone and three feet in the past 72 hours.

Is this our March Miracle? Or just snow aficionados’version of March Madness?
