In 2015 Nick Martini, Ingrid Backstrom and Callum Pettit ventured into the Russian backcountry looking for big lines and perhaps, the origins of skiing. Well, they might have found both. Here, as part of their flick, The Great Siberian Traverse, Callum gets a ski lesson from a local and his son. The locals shred on these homemade wooden skis with actual real animal skin on the bottom, which allow for climbing. They’ve used the skis for hunting, literally for generations upon generations. And they definitely know how to carve with them.
