Well, you could call that triumphant.
In his competitive big mountain debut, Tanner Hall definitely met expectations as he finished second at the Freeride World Tour event this weekend at Hakuba, Japan. Hall, who won X Games gold seven times, finished just behind Markus Eder, last year’s runner up in the standings.

Hall didn’t hold back on his first run ever on the tour. He opened with a cork three followed by a backflip. Other than one little side slip, it was a near perfect run for one of the best freeskiers in history (click the above vid to 27:00 to see his full line).

“I get butterflies, of course, but I also get really hyped (to compete),” Hall told us this fall about debuting on the Freeride World Tour. In slope(style) and pipe if you make one tiny mistake you’re f*****. You won’t have enough speed. I’m used to being straight-up perfect. In big mountain, there’s a little bit of room to play around with. Maybe not though, to win one of these contests you gotta be perfect as well, but I’m just trying to correlate the two. I’m just stoked, life is good again and I’m ready to compete.”

He certainly showed that today. Canadian rookie Tom Peiffer ended third, with Japan’s Yu Sasaki in fourth and Kiwi Craig Murray in fifth.
