The Inertia

For some strange reason, the Snake River and it’s sizable chasm has always enthralled stuntmen trying to jump across it’s canyon. In 1974, Evel Knievel, one of the world’s first action sports stuntmen, attempted a jump over the Snake River near Twin Falls, Idaho in a steam-powered rocket. Unfortunately for Knievel and his random attempt, his parachute deployed too soon and he ate it into the river.

Last week, Eddie Braun repeated the stunt in a rocket created by engineer Scott Truax, whose father also built Knievel’s rocket. Braun called it “Evel Spirit.”

Braun easily cleared the canyon using a similar ramp to his boyhood idol. During his jump, his rocket reached 400 mph and covered more than 1,400 feet.
