Hannah Teter is an icon in the snowboarding world. From her gold-winning run in the 2006 Olympics and silver medal finish in the 2010 Games (both in halfpipe) to countless magazine spreads and video parts (and even playing a big role in the Special Olympics), she has reigned at the forefront of women’s snowboarding for more than a decade. And she’s truly an inspirational human.
Growing up riding her home mountain, Sierra at Tahoe with her four brothers, it was inevitable that she would want to shred with the boys and her success as a professional snowboarder has been reflected through the help of her brothers. One of the most influential of the siblings was eldest brother Abe, who was the first of the five siblings to step foot on a snowboard and paved the way for the rest of the family. His younger brother Amon recently wrote, “our brother Abe has had a huge impact on the life of our whole family. He got everyone into snowboarding in the late 1990’s and ever since it’s been an amazing adventure and what’s turned out to be careers for all of us, having followed Abe’s lead.”
Recently Abe developed an aggressive form of Basal Cell Carcinoma, a skin cancer that has started on the left side of his face, in and around his left eye. In four days, $29,878 of $35K goal has been raised for Abe’s medical treatment on GoFundMe. It’s always amazing to see the snowboard community coming together for someone in a time of need. All donations to this talented family are much appreciated (the treatement is not cheap).
Abe has made a huge impact on the snowboarding world and has the respect of many fellow riders including Pat Bridges who wrote, “At the turn of the millennium Abe Teter was one of those rare riders who made watching snowboarding more fun than actually doing it.” Our love and support goes out to the family and friends of Abe Teter. Stay strong Abe. Go the distance, never give up. To help donate here.
