I can’t tell you how many times I spent a full day on the mountain and absolutely nothing sounded better than ordering a pizza and drinking beer in the lodge. Sometimes that beer became several beers. I can also vouch that there are days when lunchtime approaches and my inner dialogue starts to whisper, “Hey, you’re gonna spend $30 on that hamburger anyway. Might as well throw in a $15 beer too.”
One Keystone, Colorado snowboarder either lost a serious bet with those voices in his head before lunch or he’s the kind of guy who packs a flask in his jacket and starts throwing back shots before lap number two. Either way, he had a few too many drinks and landed in the Summit County Sheriff’s “weekly summary of police activity.”
The official police write-up reads:
Keystone Ski Patrol reported an intoxicated snowboarder who was discovered off a steep embankment. The man was too intoxicated to return to the run himself and was unable to assist the patrollers in getting him back to safety. Ski Patrol set up an uphaul rope to extract the man who had become unconscious due to his high level of intoxication. He was treated at a nearby Urgent Care. The man’s blood alcohol content was measured at over 0.2 (for reference, just over 2 ½ times the legal limit to drive a vehicle). After waiting two hours for the male to wake up, deputies cited the man for a skier safety violation.
Oops.
