The body of snowboarder Connor Gill was discovered on Vail Mountain Friday, February 28, exactly two weeks after he was last seen. Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis confirmed his identity Monday but many details regarding cause of death have still not been shared publicly.

Gill was last seen the morning of February 14. His pass was scanned at the Avanti Express chairlift just before 9 a.m. and a friend reported Gill missing later that afternoon, prompting a search and rescue effort into the weekend. Weather conditions, however, complicated the search. At least 27 inches of snow fell in just 48 hours after Gill’s disappearance and a total of 50 inches fell in a week. Strong winds also limited resources for search and rescue workers, including search dogs and drones that could not be deployed.

“On behalf of Vail Mountain and Vail Ski Patrol, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our guest,” said Beth Howard, Vail Mountain Chief Operating Officer. “We appreciate all of the rescue agencies who conducted this search alongside Vail Ski Patrol.”

More than a dozen local and federal agencies were involved in the search effort, including Vail Ski Patrol and the Vail Police Department. There was no further clarification on when details of the incident would be released.
