Southern Utah is a rad place to ride mountain bikes. And an epic place to hike. But skiing? It’s got to be a huge winter to happen, and 2015-2016’s El Nino definitely qualified. Last season, using snapchats and random maps, skiers Sawyer Thomas, Riis Wilbrecht and Joey Thomason scoured the north facing slopes of the desert environ to find a few tasty morsels. Like the ones above. “Tracking lines that hadn’t been too exposed to the heat and then promptly turning around to the other side of the canyon in search of the same conditions was the mission,” they said. “It was an intense experience not knowing if your next turn was going to be rock, snow or ice. After a few core shots and a handful of F-bombs, we were finally able to make some decent turns through the canyons.” It doesn’t look too bad. Or they edited well. Maybe a little of both.
