The Black Hills aren’t known as a backcountry skiing destination. But they’re certainly known as sacred Native American lands. Meet backcountry skier Conner Ryan, a member of the Lakota tribe who was part of this project, with a group called Natives Outdoors, which works to empower indigenous communities.
Ryan discovers the small (but passionate) backcountry skiing community of this South Dakota mountain range that is steeped in Native history. And he actually finds some pretty fun lines from the looks of it while weaving the modern plight of the Lakota into this quick 10-minute film.
