On January 24, a 21-year-old snowboarder went missing at Cypress Mountain Resort, a ski hill in West Vancouver, British Columbia that’s a little over an hour’s drive from Whistler Blackcomb. Sadly, he has been found dead in a gully.
West Vancouver police (WVPD) said that the missing snowboarder, who was from nearby Richmond, B.C., was snowboarding with his friends at around 10:30 a.m. when he disappeared from an inbounds run.
Ski patrol and North Shore rescue teams were dispatched immediately and searched extensively, but when they found the missing snowboarder it was too late.
“Lifesaving actions were taken immediately but were not successful,” said Sgt. Chris Bigland, WVPD spokesperson. “A 21-year-old male from Richmond was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Now, the investigation is in the hands of the BC Coroners Service. The snowboarder was found in a gully next to Collins Run, a green run that ends at the Lions Express chairlift. Details on the victim’s identity or cause of death haven’t been released.
