The Inertia

A 26-year-old Denver, Colorado resident named Connor Gill has gone missing after he went snowboarding on Vail Mountain Friday. Authorities have been searching for Gill ever since a friend reported him missing to ski patrol Friday afternoon, however, the last accounting for his location came several hours earlier when he scanned his pass at 8:50 a.m. to get on the Avanti Express chair lift. Nobody has seen him since.

Complicating the weekend search effort were a slew of challenging conditions. Vail Mountain reportedly received more than two feet of fresh snow between Friday, when Gill was last seen, and Sunday. Strong winds caused visibility issues through both days and the area remained under a winter storm watch through Tuesday morning. The heavy snowfall over the weekend didn’t stop the search but Sgt. Bob Silva with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office told Denver7 that the effort would have to be scaled back once it started up again on Monday morning.

A friend of Gill’s described him as an intermediate snowboarder who’s familiar with the Vail area. Deputies searched the area where Gill’s cellphone last pinged its location as well as parts of the mountain he’s known to ride often, and they added that there’s no indication he ever went out of bounds while riding Friday.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office encouraged the public to review any photographs or videos they might have taken that day if they were at Vail Mountain, hoping it might help them trace Gill’s steps. He’s described as six-feet tall, 195 pounds, and was wearing an orange jumpsuit, gray helmet, riding a Solomon snowboard, and wore Smith goggles.
