Mark McMorris, who enjoyed one of his best seasons ever after coming back from a broken femur, suffered what could be an even more serious setback this weekend after he was injured in the backcountry near Whistler, Canada.
He underwent two surgeries for injuries that included “a fractured jaw, fractured left arm, ruptured spleen, a stable pelvic fracture, rib fractures and a collapsed left lung.”
There isn’t much info available other than it was a crash and not avalanche-related and that he was filming with his brother Craig, an extremely experienced backcountry athlete and X Games commentator. He had to be airlifted to help.
McMorris won the big air event at X Games Norway this year as well the slopestyle at the U.S. Open and looked outrageously on-point throughout the season.
