No, these animals aren’t dead. They’re participating in a natural phenomenon called brumation, which is kind of like hibernation, where they stick their noses through the ice and remain perfectly still to survive the brutal cold. These gators are at Shallotte River Swamp Park in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. The cold temeratures in the Southeast have been doing crazy things lately, like freezing iguanas, which have apparently been falling from trees.
