Riding two sticks on snow can be a frustrating endeavor. Skiing is the easiest way to teach kids or beginners in general how to get on the snow fast. A snowboard has one giant edge that can whip the uninitiated like a rag doll, causing a lack of enjoyment and quite possibly, whiplash.
But to become a “good” skier takes decades, unlike a snowboard. There are just so many nuances involved like weight distribution, conditions, terrain, body types and the like. And then there’s the joy of riding powder, inarguably snow sliding’s most beloved condition. To the inexperienced skier, riding pow can equal a day of sweat and yard sales.
Here, Stomp Tutorials, a well-done series of skiing tutorials that goes way beyond the How to Get Into It-fare, explains three common mistakes of those who love to ride fresh. It’s aimed at backcountry users (there’s 7 million of us now) but can easily apply to a good day at the resort as well.
