Jared Leto, AKA Jordan Catalano, AKA The Joker…AKA rock climbing documentary filmmaker? The 44-year-old Hollywood heartthrob has been spending time of late with the likes of Tommy Caldwell, Renan Ozturk and Sasha DiGuilian, even doing some climbing himself in Yosemite. He’s directing a five-part video series on the National Parks and the characters who climb, raft, find adventure and inspiration in America’s best idea.
The first video, a 15-minute piece that probes Caldwell’s past, his path to becoming an elite climber and his Dawn Wall ascent, dropped July 25. Titled “The Conquistador,” it’s got some of the expected cheese in a film series about national parks and extreme athletes, and some of the expected awkwardness of a Hollywood-type roping up on the Big Stone, but it’s worth a look.
