It’s been almost ten years since the great Shane McConkey passed in Italy in a BASE jumping accident. And the skier is still one of the most influential action sports athletes of all time. And most of that has to do with attitude and the important ideology of never taking oneself too seriously. Every athlete from any sport can take a lesson from his Saucer Boy character. Created after he tore his ACL in Alaska, Shane used Saucer to poke fun at the sponsored industry of skiing and snowboarding (and surfing and any other pursuit of passion for that matter). That’s why, anyone willing to grab a snow disc, a climbing rope and strap on a pair of snowblades while carrying around a bottle of whiskey, especially in a mountain town, would still get the ultimate props for Halloween costumes.
