In general, the month of November is the first snowfall in our mountains. But most of the time, the amount we get is insufficient and leaves us a taste of bitterness, and excitement quickly fades. But the 2017 version is very different.
This time, the snow has arrived in the Pyrenees early. A good weather depression with a cold episode sat over the mountain chain dumping a solid amount of snow. One meter of snow fell on November 8 on the summits at Grand Tourmalet. It was time to bust out the ski equipment, which we hadn’t planned on using so early in the season.
We headed for the Grand Tourmalet that we know petty well to do our first ski touring of the season. It’s a personal record for me to ski on November 10. The snow was a little heavy with rising temperatures but what a pleasure to be able to make your own tracks and be totally alone. And especially to find the feelings of flow again so early.
