The Inertia

In another example of America’s outlandish infatuation with guns, shots were fired on a pair of climbers Monday in Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Brandon Wilde and Nate Lamb were enjoying an evening session, climbing a route known as Stifler’s Mom (great name for a route, BTW), when a green sedan reportedly pulled up below them with shots whizzing past the climbers’ heads. The climbers told police they could hear the bullets strike the rocks next to them.

“We were about 250 feet up or so on the third pitch,” Wilde said. “Nate was climbing, I was belaying. I kind of thought they were fireworks at first.”

They definitely weren’t fireworks.

“I mean I could hear the bullets whistling past my head,” Lamb said.

Thankfully, no one was injured but the sedan had left the scene before police arrived and police apparently found bullet casings at the scene that corroborated the climbers’ story.

According to police and witnesses, it wasn’t immediately apparent if the crazed gunman were looking to scare or injure the climbers. Regardless, they certainly succeeded in doing the former. Luckily not the latter.
