Austrian alpinist David Lama is one of the best climbers of this generation. But he certainly has ties–and an incredible amount of respect–for those who came before him. Especially iconic climbers like Conrad Anker.
Lama and Anker worked together in recent years to climb a formidable un-climbed peak in the Himalayas, Lunag Ri, on the border of Tibet and Nepal. But in 2016, their second attempt nearly killed Anker.
Well, Lama returned to Lunag Ri this year and completed the task, climbing the beautiful, and terrifying, peak alone. This POV and drone footage captures the ascent beautifully and Lama gave Anker total praise in a blog post on his site when looking back at his summit: “I sink down to my knees, tired and happy, even though I wouldn’t be able to express it that way right now. Briefly, I think about Conrad. He is the only one I would have liked to share this moment with.”
