Sure, there have been some large avalanches caught on film. And to measure the biggest slide ever caught on film would be a fruitless task. That said, this avalanche blew minds when Washington’s Crystal Mountain Resort posted footage of this ski patrol-induced slide.
“Beautiful spring days are upon us but it’s not all pretty,” wrote resort officials. “The first significant and extended warm-up of the spring season can cause long wet slides. Ski Patrol have been mitigating areas in-bounds through our extended ski season, and a single trigger caused this massive slide down Powder Bowl.”
The patrol at Crystal, working with groomers, was able smooth out part of the area and re-open it for the final weekend of its Rainier Express lift. Crystal has had an incredibly long season and still has three more “bonus” weekends of skiing and riding. This was a truly massive slide, though.
