California's Sugar Bowl Has Gotten 41 Feet of Snow; Good Luck Getting to the Office

That’s the Sugar Bowl marketing office on the right. And a Sugar Bowl employee trying to dig out the resort.

The Inertia

Uh, yeah, California continues to get pummeled with snow in one of the snowiest winters in years. Our inboxes have gotten stuffed with imagery. Mountain High in Southern California of course got eight feet in seven days (a total anomaly). And then there’s Sugar Bowl, off I-80 northwest of Lake Tahoe, which has been absolutely pummeled this winter.

According to staff, the resort has received 41 feet on the season, the most since 2019. Sugar Bowl has gotten 135 inches in February and 107 in the past seven days. Wow!

The action has been hot and heavy all over the Lake Tahoe region. Palisades Tahoe racked up 126 inches in that same seven-day period. Kirkwood in South Lake Tahoe has received 500 inches thus far this season (yeah, that’s 41 feet, too).

It’s been a gigantic season for most of Western resorts. Utah’s Snowbird has received 545 total inches this season. Deer Valley has over 400 inches thus far with a base of 117.

Needless to say, many mountains across the country are extending their closing dates, like Sugar Bowl, into late April and early May.
