The Inertia

Most of the world has heard by now that Russia is invading Ukraine in what is the largest conventional military conflict on the European continent since World War II. Ukrainian athletes and celebrities have returned home to fight. Key cities are being targeted (including a nuclear plant), and civilians have been caught in the crossfire. Europe is on the cusp of a massive humanitarian crisis as people flee the country. Needless to say, most of the rest of the world isn’t happy about the situation, and Russia is feeling it with economic and sporting sanctions. People are voicing their support, including these skiers and riders at the Alberg ski area in Austria.

PlanetSki.eu is a site based out of London that covers snowsports worldwide, but especially on the European continent. The e-zine posted this photo yesterday on its Facebook page: “As seen in Warth-Schrocken as we skied the Arlberg ski area in Austria today,” reads the caption. “We could not agree more.”

Apparently a group of skiers or snowboarders took it upon themselves to bootpack a message for the Russian leader in the snow near the resort. As mentioned above, most of the world seems to be rallying in support of Ukraine. And for those in Europe, the war must be hitting home especially hard.
